Celebrini tries to tune out the noise as his play generates Olympic buzz

Published on

San Jose Sharks centre Macklin Celebrini is heating up the ice with his outstanding performance in the NHL this season. As he racks up points and demonstrates his skills, Celebrini tries to tune out the noise as his play generates Olympic buzz. But while the hockey world speculates about his potential Olympic debut, Celebrini remains focused on his day-to-day professional campaign.

At just 19, Celebrini has already shown promise as a key player for the San Jose Sharks. The No. 1 pick at the 2024 draft, Celebrini has demonstrated his scoring prowess with 43 points (15 goals, 28 assists) through 31 games this season. His performance puts him third in NHL scoring, causing many to speculate about his chances of joining Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Learning from the Legends

But even as he breaks records, Celebrini remains humble and eager to learn. He had the opportunity to join superstars Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon over the summer for a series of skating sessions – an experience that he fondly recalls. “Just being around them, seeing two legends, how they carry themselves, approach every day. Two guys I looked up to growing up … pretty cool,” Celebrini said.

Celebrini’s Work Ethic

It’s not just Celebrini’s scoring ability that impresses his teammates and coaches, it’s his work ethic. San Jose Sharks’ winger Tyler Toffoli and tough guy Ryan Reaves praised Celebrini for his dedication to the game and his willingness to do the little things that go a long way. “Brings the energy every single night,” said Toffoli. “Not only is he producing, but he does the little things that go a long way.”

A Bright Future

As the Sharks move through their season, Celebrini continues to focus on his performance rather than speculation about his future Olympic prospects. But with his impressive stats and dedication to the game, it seems only a matter of time before his Olympic dreams become a reality. As Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said, “He’s got a lot of Sid in him … he’s got some Nate MacKinnon [with] the competitiveness. But the end of the day, Mac is Mac. And we’re gonna let him be him.”
