Loyalty card enthusiasts: Look out for these loyalty program changes in 2026

Published on

For those who are keen on maximizing their loyalty card rewards, 2026 promises several important changes to keep an eye on. From single currencies to new partnerships, these alterations aim to provide greater flexibility and more opportunities for earning and redeeming points. Here are some key updates that loyalty card enthusiasts should take note of:

Aeroplan Simplifies Elite Status Qualification

Starting 2026, Aeroplan is set to overhaul its Elite status program, making it easier for members to qualify. Rather than juggling miles, segments, or dollars, members will simply need to meet specific status-qualifying credit thresholds. The method of earning miles on flights will shift from being based on the distance flown to the cash spent. This may require higher spending for some members to requalify in 2026, but could be advantageous for others depending on their routes and fare classes.

DINR Partnership Offers Culinary Experiences

Aeroplan is also teaming up with DINR, an app offering same-day reservations at top restaurants and exclusive culinary experiences. Starting 2026, Aeroplan members can earn and redeem points directly through DINR, making the loyalty program more versatile and lifestyle-focused.

Petro Points Introduces Platinum Status

Petro-Points has added a Platinum status to its loyalty program. To achieve this, members have to fill up 1,000 litres within a 90‑day period starting in January 2026. Platinum members will enjoy perks such as 50% more Petro‑Points, bonus CT Money for those linked to Triangle Rewards, and other benefits. However, to maintain Platinum status, regular fill-ups of about twice a week are required.

Air Miles Adopts Single Currency System

Air Miles is transitioning to a single currency system, eliminating the distinction between cash miles and dream miles. Starting from January 25, 2026, miles can be used towards any redemption, providing greater flexibility for collectors.

WestJet Credit Card Upgrades and Skip Partnership

WestJet has refreshed its credit cards, offering cardholders a higher earn rate on everyday spending, and introducing trip cancellation and mobile device insurance. However, to receive the companion voucher and free checked bag benefits, cardholders will need to meet certain spending requirements and charge the full cost of their flight to their card. WestJet has also partnered with Skip, allowing members to earn WestJet points on Skip orders, adding more value for consumers.

Amex Platinum Cardholders May See Reduced Lounge Access

Changes to the American Express Platinum card lounge access have been announced. From 2027, cardholders will be limited to six complimentary visits each to Plaza Premium and Priority Pass lounges, totaling to 12 visits in a year. However, those who spend $20,000 annually will continue to enjoy unlimited lounge access.

EQ Bank to Acquire PC Financial

EQ Bank has announced plans to acquire PC Financial, and will become the exclusive financial partner of the PC Optimum program. While there is no immediate change for collectors, this partnership could potentially introduce new ways to earn points through everyday banking services in the future.
