Toronto chef behind larger-than-life sandwich concept opening new restaurant

Published on

A celebrated Toronto chef, known for his larger-than-life sandwich concept, is about to make new waves in the city’s bustling food scene. A collaboration with a seasoned sommelier and hospitality professional will culminate in the launch of a tantalizing new sandwich shop. The city, known for its diverse food offerings, is set to welcome this mouthwatering addition in a matter of days.

A New Addition to Toronto’s Sandwich Scene

Toronto’s culinary landscape is akin to a bag of assorted potato chips – diverse, flavorful, and one is never enough. Despite the city’s vast array of sandwich shops, the news of an additional one always stirs excitement among food enthusiasts. The year 2025 saw an influx of new sandwich joints in Toronto, from the enormous delights at Alfie’s to the scrumptious focaccia offerings at Uncle Pete’s. Now, as the year nears its end, the city is ready to welcome yet another sandwich shop.

New Venture in Leslieville

Leslieville, a neighborhood in Toronto, is ready for its share of the sandwich love with the upcoming launch of Hot Mess Sandwich & Pantry at Gerrard East. This new venture marks the first permanent establishment from If I May Hospitality, led by renowned sommelier Lee Stein, who also co-created the wine-centric fine dining pop-up, Caveau.

A Dynamic Duo at the Helm

Teaming up with Lee on this exciting project is Chef Steven Kasprowicz, known for his innovative takeout and catering venture, The Eat Locker. The duo recently revamped the food program at Leslieville’s Dive Shop, and now they are focusing their creative energies on a venture that’s entirely their own.

Expectations from Hot Mess Sandwich & Pantry

While specific details about the menu at Hot Mess are being kept under wraps, Kasprowicz’s impressive culinary record at The Eat Locker suggests that customers can expect unique and droolworthy takes on classic sandwiches. Speaking to blogTO, Lee revealed, “We’re putting final touches on the space this week and looking to soft launch just after Christmas.” So, it won’t be long before Toronto gets to savor the latest sandwich creations from this dynamic duo. The new sandwich shop, Hot Mess, will be located at 1027 Gerrard St. E.

Photographs of the upcoming shop can be found on the official Instagram page of The Eat Locker, providing a sneak peek into what’s to come.
