Toronto Tempo unveil WNBA team’s first-ever jerseys

Published on

The anticipation for the Toronto Tempo’s 2026 WNBA debut is building, with their latest reveal of the team’s first-ever jerseys. The uniforms, unveiled on Tuesday, showcase Toronto’s unique colour scheme and pay homage to the city’s boroughs, adding another layer of excitement as Canada prepares for its first WNBA franchise.

Unveiling of Toronto Tempo’s Jerseys

The Toronto Tempo took a significant step towards their WNBA debut as they unveiled their home and away uniforms. These jerseys will feature Toronto’s colour scheme of maroon, blue, and white. Notably, the uniforms will also display six ‘Tempo lines’ down the side, a tribute to the city’s boroughs.

The team has aptly christened the maroon colour as “Tempo Bordeaux” and the blue as “Borealis Blue.” These colours not only represent the team’s identity but also reflect the vibrancy of the city they represent.

Intentional Design and Meaning

Whitney Bell, the Chief Marketing Officer of Toronto Tempo, reflected on the significance of this unveiling. “Every detail of these uniforms is intentional. From the colour story to the speed lines, we’ve created a design that brings our brand to life and represents our city, our fans, and our team. We cannot wait for our players, and our fans, to wear them with pride,” she stated.

Adherence to WNBA Standards

In line with the WNBA standards, the Tempo will sport the white “Heroine” edition uniforms during home games, while the “Explorer” edition maroon uniform will be used for away games. Notably, the Tempo will be the first WNBA team to play with this unique colour scheme.

Adding more distinctiveness to their jerseys, Toronto’s uniforms will also feature two sponsorship patches from cosmetics retailer Sephora and Canadian bank CIBC.

Purchase Details and Availability

Fans eager to show their support will not have to wait long to purchase these jerseys. The Tempo’s maroon away jerseys will be available for sale starting in January. However, there has been no announcement yet on when the Tempo’s white home jersey will be available for purchase.

Expanding the WNBA to Canada

In 2024, Toronto was awarded a WNBA expansion team after owner Larry Tanenbaum paid an expansion fee of $50 million USD. The team will play out of Coca-Cola Coliseum, with plans for regular-season games to be also played in Montreal and Vancouver. This expansion marks a significant milestone for Canadian basketball, and the unveiling of the Tempo’s jerseys adds to the growing excitement.
