If successful, a constituency-wide vote determines whether the MLA should be recalled. If the majority vote in favour, the MLA is removed and a byelection is held.
United Conservative Party (UCP) Members Facing Recalls
Out of the 23 politicians facing recall, 22 are members of the United Conservative Party. The reasons cited by petitioners range from perceived lack of responsiveness to constituents, prioritizing party loyalty over constituent needs, supporting government decisions that are seen as harmful to the public, to advocating for policies that allegedly undermine democratic control and reduce access to services.
Notable UCP Recall Petitions
Among the UCP members facing recalls are Demetrios Nicolaides, Angela Pitt, Nolan Dyck, Myles McDougall, Ric McIver, Muhammad Yaseen, Rajan Sawhney, R.J. Sigurdson, Dale Nally, Glenn van Dijken, Jackie Lovely, Nathan Neudorf, Jason Stephan, Searle Turton, Peter Singh, Tanya Fir, Adriana LaGrange, Rebecca Schulz, Danielle Smith, Nate Glubish, Mickey Amery, and Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk. Each of these politicians is facing accusations from citizens who feel their needs and concerns are not being adequately addressed.
Opposition NDP Member Facing Recall
From the Opposition NDP, Amanda Chapman is the only member facing a recall. The petitioner accuses her of prioritizing divisive partisan attacks over the representation of the constituency and supporting public-sector unions at the expense of residents.
