Davies back in Bayern’s squad for first time in nine months after knee injury

Published on

Canadian footballer and team captain Alphonso Davies has made a long-awaited comeback to Bayern Munich’s squad. His return comes after a grueling nine-month hiatus following a severe knee injury. Davies’s re-entry into the field marks a significant moment, not just for him but also for the team, his fans, and the sport as a whole.

Alphonso Davies Returns to Bayern Munich

Davies made his return to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, marking his first appearance in 262 days since he suffered a serious knee injury. The 25-year-old Edmonton native was brought in from the bench during the 88th minute of Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Portuguese champion Sporting Lisbon in a Champions League match held at Allianz Arena.

Anticipation of Davies’s Return

Initially, Josip Stanisic was slated as the starting left back for Bayern. However, Davies hinted during the Film Never Lies podcast on Monday that coach Vincent Kompany may bring him into play. “I’m not sure if I will get minutes,” he confessed, leaving the decision to the coach.

Davies Replaces Serge Gnabry

Davies replaced German international Serge Gnabry, one of Bayern’s goal-scorers, when he entered the game. This marked his first major game since he was injured in March while playing for Canada against the United States in a CONCACAF Nations League third-place game. Davies had torn a ligament and sustained other damage in his right knee in the incident.

Bayern’s Criticism of Canadian National Team

Following the injury, Bayern Munich had expressed criticism towards the Canadian national team. The criticism stemmed from allegations that Davies hadn’t been given proper medical checks on the injury before boarding a flight back to Germany. This incident had sparked a controversy, putting the spotlight on the importance of player safety and medical attention in the sport.

Despite the criticisms and the ordeal, Davies’s return to the pitch is a testament to his resilience and determination. As he resumes his career with Bayern Munich, fans and teammates alike will undoubtedly look forward to his contributions on the field.
