Eagles gift fan who survived New Orleans truck attack Super Bowl ring

Published on

Showing solidarity and support in the face of adversity, the Philadelphia Eagles gifted a Super Bowl ring to a fan who survived a horrific truck attack in New Orleans. This remarkable act of kindness highlights the strong bond between sports teams and their dedicated fans, who stand by each other in good times and in challenging moments.

A Token of Solidarity: Eagles’ Gift to Fan Ryan Quigley

On January 1, 2025, Ryan Quigley was among the unfortunate victims of a truck ramming attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. A fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Quigley survived this shocking incident, which claimed the lives of many, including his close friend, Martin (Tiger) Bech. In a heartfelt gesture of support, the Eagles franchise presented Quigley with a framed photo of Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts gripping the Lombardi Trophy, along with a mounted Super Bowl ring. The ring features Eagles wings on each side that release from the bezel, symbolizing the team’s spirit and resilience.

Commemorating a Fallen Friend: Quigley’s Jersey

Quigley wore a custom jersey to an Eagles’ game at the Lincoln Financial Field, which was half Eagles-half Raiders, numbered 18. The jersey was a tribute to rookie Las Vegas wide receiver Jack Bech, brother of the deceased Tiger Bech. The front of Quigley’s jersey bore a No. 7 patch to honor Tiger, a former football player at Princeton. Despite his desire for Jack Bech to perform well, Quigley rooted for the Eagles, exemplifying his unwavering loyalty to the team.

Quigley’s Struggle and Recovery

In the aftermath of the attack, Quigley suffered extensive injuries including a torn ACL, torn meniscus, a broken nose, severe facial lacerations, and more. As part of his long path to recovery, Quigley has undergone multiple surgeries and continues to require hours of rehabilitation each week. Despite the difficulties, Quigley remains determined to regain his health, demonstrating an admirable spirit of resilience and positivity.

The Eagles’ Continued Support

Since learning about Quigley’s story, the Eagles franchise has shown ongoing support for him. Quigley was invited to a playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams and was later given a tour of the Eagles’ headquarters. Additionally, he was given two tickets to the Super Bowl, where he witnessed the Eagles’ victory over Kansas City. Quigley’s interaction with the team and its members continues to inspire him as he battles his physical and emotional scars from the attack.

Looking Forward

As the one-year anniversary of the attack approaches, Quigley is focused on moving forward, drawing strength from the support of the Eagles and the broader football community. He embodies the resilience, determination, and spirit that the sport celebrates, reminding us that life continues despite adversity. In the face of life’s challenging moments, the camaraderie, support, and resilience demonstrated by the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans are a testament to the power of unity and human spirit.
