Late goal pushes Wild past Senators in 3-2 win

Published on

In an exciting turn of events, a late goal from Minnesota Wild Center, Joel Eriksson Ek, pushed his team past the Ottawa Senators in a thrilling 3-2 win on Saturday. Eriksson Ek’s last-minute score, with just 23.1 seconds remaining, proved to be the deciding factor in this nail-biting encounter between the two teams.

Joel Eriksson Ek’s Deciding Goal

Joel Eriksson Ek left spectators and players alike in awe as he buried a one-timer from the right circle following a cross-ice pass from teammate Marcus Johansson. This unexpected goal came as a blow to the Senators, who had managed to tie the game after trailing by two goals.

Other Key Players for the Wild

While Eriksson Ek’s goal stole the spotlight, Tyler Pitlick and Ryan Hartman also made crucial contributions to Minnesota’s win. Pitlick scored off a deflection, weaving the puck between the legs of Senators’ goaltender Leevi Meriläinen, giving the Wild an early lead. Hartman then extended this lead, converting a crisp pass from Johansson on the power play to make it 2-0.

Senators’ Fightback

The Ottawa Senators, however, did not go down without a fight. With the advantage of a 5-on-3 power play, Tim Stutzle managed to score a goal against the Wild’s goalie, Jesper Wallstedt, just six seconds after the first penalty expired. Dylan Cozens tied the game early in the third period with another power-play goal, firing a wrist shot from the high slot that beat a screened Wallstedt over the right shoulder.

Wild’s Challenges and Upcoming Matches

In spite of the absence of defenseman Jonas Brodin and forward Marcus Zuccarello due to injuries, the Wild managed to secure the win. Their team also awaits the debut of defenseman Quinn Hughes, recently acquired in a trade with Vancouver. Moving forward, the Wild will host Boston on Sunday, while the Senators are set to visit Winnipeg on Monday.

With this recent win under their belt, the Minnesota Wild have demonstrated not only their skill and teamwork, but also their resilience. Despite facing strong opposition from the Senators and being down two key players, they managed to hold their ground and secure a victory. This match serves as a testament to their tenacity and will surely be a morale booster for their upcoming games.
