Oilers take aim at their first three-game win streak of the season

Published on

The Edmonton Oilers, a team known for its inconsistency this season, are setting their sights on a significant achievement: their first three-game winning streak. While not a noteworthy feat for many other teams, for the Oilers, it would represent a promising shift in their performance. Having already secured decisive victories against the Seattle Kraken and the Winnipeg Jets, the Oilers are preparing to take on the Buffalo Sabres in an attempt to extend their winning streak.

Edmonton Oilers’ Quest for Consistency

Despite their recent victories, the Oilers have had a challenging season, with alternating wins and losses keeping them hovering around a .500 winning percentage. “All year we’ve been winning one, losing one,” goaltender Calvin Pickard admitted. However, the team is optimistic about their chances of achieving a more consistent performance. “This team is no stranger to big win streaks. We’ve done it the last few years, and this would be a nice time to get one going,” Pickard added.

Since returning from a six-game road trip, which saw them losing four matches, the Oilers have managed to win three out of five games. The team seems to be finding its stride, outscoring their opponents 19-7 over their last four games.

Building Confidence through Performance

Team captain Connor McDavid has observed a boost in confidence among his teammates, especially after their recent winning streak. “Guys are feeling pretty confident right now, individuals are playing a little better,” McDavid noted. However, he also highlighted the need for continuous improvement. “We’re always working at our game, and we’re still trying to get better. Things have been better the last little while, now we have to keep it going,” he commented.

The Oilers’ forward, Leon Draisaitl, also echoed these sentiments. He highlighted that confidence can be a fickle factor, and the team had struggled with it during their rough start to the season. “Sometimes you lose confidence in your own ability and the ability of the group a little bit, and it takes a little while to get out of it,” Draisaitl said. But he also mentioned the underlying confidence within the group, stating, “we know how to play, we just have to do it more often.”

Practice Makes Perfect

One factor that appears to have contributed to the recent success of the Oilers is having time to practice. Head coach Kris Knoblauch highlighted this, stating, “There are a lot of factors, but in my opinion, probably that’s the biggest key. As much as I would like to think my practices are great and they turn teams around, I think it’s just a fact the guys are on the ice, and they’re moving the puck while getting confronted, under pressure … forced to make plays.”

After their upcoming game against the Detroit Red Wings, the Oilers will embark on another five-game road trip. Fans will be eagerly watching to see if they can maintain their newfound momentum and consistency during these matches.
