Toronto Tempo unveil home and away uniforms for inaugural season

Published on

The Toronto Tempo, the newest addition to the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), has finally unveiled their home and away uniforms for their inaugural season. After a year of anticipation, fans got their first glimpse of the team’s jerseys, which have been designed with a classic touch and modern flair. The Tempo’s uniforms, a reflection of the team’s unique identity and the city’s vibrancy, are set to become a fashion statement both on and off the court.

Revealing the Toronto Tempo’s Uniforms

The Tempo’s home and away uniforms were unveiled early Tuesday after being kept under wraps for over a year. The home jersey, a white suit, and the away jersey, colored in Tempo Bordeaux – a deep red shade with purple undertones, are both based on classic basketball uniforms. Along with Borealis Blue outlining the lettering, the jerseys represent a perfect blend of tradition and modernity.

Designing a Classic, Bold Look

Whitney Bell, Tempo’s chief marketing officer, explained the team’s vision behind the uniforms. “We knew we wanted something that was really classic and that could live on for a long amount of time. So with the colours and the design, we wanted to feel modern, bold, but also something that people would really enjoy wearing every day as a fashion statement,” said Bell.

A Well-Kept Secret

The design process of the uniforms began in November 2024, after the Tempo’s name, logo, and colour scheme were announced. However, the mass production of the jerseys took months, keeping the team’s jerseys a secret until their recent unveiling. “It’s tough to hold on to it for over a year…And then from the time we designed them to when we saw the first physical samples was like half a year, so you almost forget,” Bell shared.

Nike’s Three Uniform Designs

All WNBA teams are equipped with three Nike-designed uniforms: the Heroine (home), Explorer (away), and Rebel (alternate). The Tempo’s Explorer jersey will be available for fans to purchase starting January. However, the WNBA does not sell its Heroine jerseys, and the Rebel design has yet to be revealed.

A Unique Detail

Both the Heroine and Explorer jerseys feature six speed lines running down the sides, representing the six boroughs of the city and the five players on the court, with the fans being the metaphorical sixth player. “It’s really unique about our team. It speaks to the word ‘Tempo’ itself as well. Having those bright blue lines on top of the Tempo Bordeaux is really beautiful, and just the change in the width and the flow of them speaks to that dynamic nature of our name and the game itself,” Bell added.

The Tempo’s WNBA Debut

The Tempo are set to make their WNBA debut in 2026. Most of their home games will be held at the Coca-Cola Coliseum at Toronto’s Exhibition Place. In addition to this, the team has committed to playing two regular-season home games in Vancouver and two in Montreal, making the Tempo’s presence felt across Canada.
