Published on

In a tragic incident that shook the city of Mississauga on Thursday, a 19-year-old was fatally shot by the police. The teen was believed to have stabbed a family member prior to the fatal shooting. The 39-year-old stabbing victim managed to find refuge at a neighbour’s residence, where he sought help. The province’s police watchdog confirmed the details of the incident on Thursday night.

Details of the Incident

According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault, the police responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute around 10:30 p.m on Thursday. Officers arrived at the residence where they found the 19-year-old man who was believed to be responsible for the stabbing of a 39-year-old man. The stabbing victim was found at a neighbour’s residence where he had sought help.

Negotiation and Fatal Shooting

The SIU reports that the officers “attempted to negotiate” with the 19-year-old man. However, the situation escalated and resulted in one of the officers discharging his firearm multiple times. The young man was struck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation and no further details have been released at this time.

The Aftermath

The 39-year-old stabbing victim was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. His current condition is not known. The incident has shocked the local community and raised questions about the use of force by police in high-stress situations. The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this incident to come forward.

Expertise and Trustworthiness of SIU

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is a trusted and authoritative body in Ontario, providing expert analysis and investigation into incidents of this nature. They maintain a commitment to transparency, professionalism, and justice. The SIU is expected to provide further updates on this case as their investigation progresses.
