In the upcoming week, investors need to keep a keen eye on several economic reports and corporate earnings. This crucial data will play a significant role in shaping the market’s direction. Here’s your calendar: What investors need to know for the week ahead.

Monday, December 15

China’s economic reports on retail sales, industrial production, and fixed asset investment will be released, providing insights into the world’s second-largest economy’s health. The Eurozone will also be publishing data on industrial production.

In Canada, reports on existing home sales, average prices, the MLS Home Price Index for November, and housing starts will be announced at 5 a.m., 5 a.m., and 8:15 a.m. ET, respectively. These reports are expected to show year-over-year declines, reflecting the impact of the ongoing pandemic on Canada’s real estate market.

Furthermore, the Canadian CPI for November and manufacturing sales and new orders for October will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Central banks will be in focus with the Bank of Japan, Bank of England, and ECB all holding their monetary policy meetings. Canada will announce its CFIB Business Barometer for December and its job vacancy rate for October.

In the U.S., investors should look out for the CPI for November, initial jobless claims, Philadelphia Fed Index for December, current account deficit for Q3, and leading indicator for November. The day’s corporate earnings include Accenture PLC, BlackBerry Ltd., Cintas Corp., FedEx Corp., and Nike Inc.

Friday, December 19

Japan’s CPI, Eurozone’s economic confidence, and Germany’s consumer confidence data will be released. In Canada, investors should look out for the retail sales for October, new housing price index for November, and household and mortgage credit for October.

On the U.S. front, the existing home sales for November and the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index for December will be released. The day’s corporate earnings include Carnival Corp. and Paychex Inc.
